Luang Prabang, the royal city, the capital forgotten Mecca of Buddhism at the cross roads of Siam, Burma, China and Vietnam. In its natural and urban restored with discretion and respect, the ancient capital of a Million Elephants, a World Heritage Site by Unesco, affirms itself as one of the cultural capitals of Southeast Asia Est. New chosen land of many international artists, attracting galleries and museum projects and raises, based on the ancient traditions of court arts, a creative effervescence that won the photography. It is on this momentum alive and delicate relied organizers to devise a draft biennial international image, which focuses on photography Lao, the latter is exchanged with young Asian schools and Europe programming dialogues between South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, India, China, Belarus, Mali and France.
Besides Rasi, Lao-French artist whose internationally recognized work is the subject of a monographic exhibition, the young Laotian photography is the great discovery of this biennial. Thanks to the work undertaken over the past ten years by the NGO My Library, young authors Laotian Hmong origin often show for the first time - and in the halls of the National Museum, the former royal palace - photographs embedded in everyday culture and brilliantly using the resources of digital art. Among them, Ka Xiong us into a fantastic world reference to the spirits of animist cults; Yaseng Li takes us into the intimacy of sleeping where the director quiet rhythms of village and the sounds of the new urbanity. Sinxay Thavixay, in his series of portraits findings to tight framing, evokes traces the modern history of Laos. Surprising and fun, witnessed the emergence of the internet and manipulating images in one click, the photo montages from the series "Photoshop fantasies" lead us into a world where Asian fundamentally one feels the influence of kitsch Thai Bollywood, the Kogaru and Visual Kei Japanese, clip and karaoke - a youth inspired contemporary rock and roll and creative "world image".
